Hebrews 4:9 KJV 1900
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
(Ask Bro Clyde to pray over the text and service,)

I. Introduction.

There is something that all humanity has in common.
Regardles of your genetics, your place or the age of your birth, this commonality has ever been the limit against which the greatest and wisest and most terrible men have crushed themselves!
No matter how far you go, how high you rise, this constant will stalk you as long as you live.
Weariness.
Tired that goes bone deep.
A universal constant, weariness is the subject of many cynical complaints and bitter laments.
poems too...
“Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary.”
I think we’ve all been there at some point, and maybe for you that point is now.
Maybe you are just tired.
And if so, that does not mean that you are backslid or lost!
Friend, you are simply tired.
And tired is not bad of itself!
It can be good!
It means you are trying!!
Pushing toward a goal!
You know, athletes, they spend their energies and their bodies, essentially breaking them down, so that they can grow back better.
Weight lifters create micro tears in each muscle they exercise, with the knowledge that if they eat correctly and rest, those same muscles will grow back harder, tougher and bigger than before.
So lives the disciple of Christ Jesus.
He or she is spiritually very active.
Prayer warriors for example, may at times be aggressive in the prayers that they pray.
Deep intercessory prayer can leave you looking for the license plate of the bus that ran you over!
Pray like that and you find that your stomach almost aches from the effort!
Of course, it feels so good in a way, to know that God has flowed through you to some devil’s defeat or some human need.
We do not mind that kind of weariness!
Still, nobody likes to feel worn out! Physically or spiritually.
We are buffetted by all the expenditures of a lost world, a fallen system, and sometimes it takes everything you have just to maintain your balance and keep your head straight!
So yeah, we know what it is to be weary.
That is why it becomes so important to rely on God!!!!
If we rest in the Holy Spirit and if we are nourished by His Word, we recover stronger and more spiritually fit, better equipped for the next challenge.
But those who know nothing of this Holy Spirit or this Holy Book, they gain no rest and they gain no nourishment.
And so they write things like”
“Oh, I am very weary, Though tears no longer flow; My eyes are tired of weeping, My heart is sick of woe.”
“I am too weary to listen, too angry to hear.”
Or this sad statement:
“Death is a delightful hiding place for weary men.” Herodotus.
Friend, if we don’t watch it, we can have this same attitude of hopelessness.
That’s why you need to look in the mirror every day and remind yourself:
“I am a man of God!”
“I am a woman of God!”
“I will spend myself for him, I will spend and be spent, but I will recover!”
“I will grow and learn and push and strive and Jesus is going to help me!”
And one day, He will reward you according to your works!
Living for Jesus is a grand adventure!
Still sometimes we need reminders, like the one found in Galatians 6:9.
Here’s your takeway from Thursday Night Bible Study...
Hey, let the Word of God encourage you tonight!!!!
Galatians 6:9 KJV 1900
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
This is so timely and I find that it helps me!
Of course, I want to get a real good handle on this Scripture, I want this Word to nourish me, so, let’s back up to verse one of chapter 6, and get a good understanding of the context of our text!
Galatians 6:1 KJV 1900
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Paul makes a lot of sense here. Like a lifeguard, if you are going to help someone, you need to be cautious that in the process, you are not lost yourself!
Spiritual restoration is our duty to the weak, but it can only be accomplished in Meekness and with great caution.
Make sure YOU don’t get in trouble! And if you are not well enough to help someone else, get your spirit man healthy first!
Hey, if you’re just trying to survive, I don’t expect you to teach a Home Bible Study!
Let’s get you into victory first!!!
And then, having maintained your victory, you minister out of the overflow!
In this way, much is accomplished, decently and in order.
Galatians 6:2 KJV 1900
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
When you are able and positioned to help someone, it gives you such a wonderful feeling when you do!
And you can feel God in it!!!!
Bearing one another’s burdens!
This is what you do in a family!
“Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
Why don’t you take a moment here and figure out how to turn that statement into a task!
Give legs and feet to your good intentions!
You are smart people in this room.
Find some practical way to bear a brother or sister’s burdens!
Be inspired!!!! Be creative!
Employ your awesome self in helping someone else!
We have to learn not to be so self absorbed!
Get beyond yourself!
Be creative! It could be as simple as giving someone a ride to work!
What could be more noble than taking a deserving coworker’s shift once in a while?
You could volunteer your time and albow greese so a friend can get a night off with family.
Another thing I think is awesome, is when you partner with another person in prayer. Be their prayer partner!
This is an awsome dynamic!
Teach a Personal Bible Study!
Be part of one!
Support one! Host a Bible study!
I promise it will help!
When we help another, it enobles your life!
Remember this statement, and the man who said it? “Whosoever shall be great among you shall be your minister, and whosoever of you will be chiefest, shall be servant to all.” (Mark 10:14)
One day a priest and a levite walked past a wounded man who’d been left for dead!
They were curious enough to look, but avoided the victim!
They could not bear the coppery smell, the thought of soiling their garments with his blood!
They could not be bothered, to give him water, at least to try and help him!
The Scribe represented Law, the Priest represented Religion, and neither did the victim any good!
It was the only the Samaritan who cared enough to bear another’s burden.
And there are many people in this world who have not been helped by laws or religion!
They need a higher power!
Show them the love of God!
When you do that, you are doing what Jesus does!
When you bind up the wounds of others, you are representing Christ!
What an honor!
How fulfilling it is!!
Next verse:
Galatians 6:3 KJV 1900
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Don’t you just love how honest and straight up Paul can be?”
“Stop lying to yourself!”
hahah!
The Bible is so honest! I love it!
Narcissis of Greek Mythology was cursed to fall in love with his own reflection.
There he stared at his reflection in a pool of water unti he eventually pined away and died!
Now you might say that’s a terrible curse!
And yet, there are folks today, who live much the same, only the curse is of their own making!
Such an inward, selfish focus never ends well!
Paul said: “Stop lying to yourself!
My Grandma always used to say: “Self Praise stinks!”
That’s expected in the world, sure.
But you are not in that world any longer!
You’re a new creature in Christ Jesus!
“Don’t get too big for your boots! Right?”
Verse 3 tells us that it is possible for us to become delusional! Completely disconnected from reality and stuck in our own self deceit.
So don’t do that!
Galatians 6:4 KJV 1900
But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
A little self examination is healthy!
Take inventory once in a while!
Look in the mirror of God’s Word! Make sure there’s no beam sticking out of your eye!
Beware the critical spirit!
We should try to live “communion ready!”
1 Corinthians 11:28 (KJV 1900)
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
The Corinthian church had a gut check in 2 Cor 13:5.
2 Corinthians 13:5 KJV 1900
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Okay, back to Galtians!
Galatians 6:5 KJV 1900
For every man shall bear his own burden.
This is simply a reference to personal responsibility.
Sometimes I find myself thinking critically of another’s work, or another’s situation.
And the HG will check me!
“Hey” “Oi!”
“Why don’t you focus that critical view on your ownself? Take care of your business!”
Aren’t you glad, God does not hold you accountable for the actions of another?
People will, but God won’t!
He will consider and appreciate your own merits!
Galatians 6:6–8 KJV 1900
Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
If you allow carnal appetites, they will grow until they choke out your spirit man!
Far better, to develop Spiritual appetites!
Talk about miracles!!!
Rejoice in what God has done!
Bro Moses commented the other day: “Does God have a smell?”
Bro Clyde and I were blown away!!
I’d never thought of it!
Then he mentioned how that oftentimes in the presence of God, he recognizes a sweetness in the air!
The both of us got so excited!!!!
And now, I can’t wait to pray and linger in the presence of God and when I do, I’m sniffing!!!!!
I want to experience that too!!!!!
Hey! Why not!
The Bible records the Temple sacrifice
2 Chronicles 5:13–14 KJV 1900
It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.
Hey, I’ve known the glory of God to manifest in a worship service!!!
I remember my mother telling me of a service in Cape Town, I was just a baby but she said she’ll never forget it!
The power of God ripped though that youth rally, until the presence of God was so heavy, nobody could stand in it!
The people were in their faces, praying and worshipping on the floor!
And Mom said that the presence of God manifest that day as a blue haze that filled the building like smoke!
I’m hungry for that!!!
I’m hungry for the presence of God!!!
I want to revel in it!
I want to rest in it!
I want you to go there and come back changed!
That’s the kind of power that will heal and deliver!!!!
That’s what the people need!
And that’s why I’m teaching short tonight.
I want us to spend time with Him.
Do you want to praise God and linger in his presence for a moment here, together in Grace?

Linger in His Presence!!!!

Foster those spritual appetites!
Read your Bible during the week!
Sow after the Spirit and reap life everlasting!
Be noble!
Be generous!
Invest for a spiritual dividend, and trust God for the outcome!
Don’t wait for something to go wrong to pray!
Pray just to be with Him!
Rest in Jesus!!!!!!
Linger in His presence!!!!
I don’t need you to faint!
I need you to keep on going!
Keep on fighting!
Keep on hoping!
Keep on praying!
Keep on believing!
Do not be weary in well doing! For in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not!
In the Presence of Jehovah
In and out of situations the tug of war in me, All day long I struggle for the answers that I need. But when I come into His presence All my questions become clear, And in that sacred moment No doubts can interfere. Chorus: In the presence of Jehovah, God Almighty, Prince of Peace, Troubles vanish, hearts are mended, In the presence of the King. Through His love the Lord provided A place for us to rest, A place to find the answers, In our hour of distress. Now there's never any reason For you to give up in despair; Just slip away and breathe His name, You will surely find Him there.
(Sis Beth to minister this song)
Matthew 11:28 KJV 1900
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
